I've decided to create an opening piece of a film for my AS Media coursework and will work independently.
I decided to select the genre horror after previously considering the idea of a rom-com.
Although horror is a very common topic to choose, I feel I would work and perform best with an opening of suspense and mystery as it is something I am very interested in, horror being one of my favourite genre of film.

This is the opening scene to 'Scream', which presents the clichés and classic opening to a horror film.
This opening sequence, I find, is key to what I want to do and has provided me with several ideas on how to 'reimagine' per say something that is so overly used.

I would like to take the idea of someone alone in the house and adapt it into a more suspenseful and psychological sequence, just as director, Wes Craven has done here.
I would like to add subtle hints to other horror films and techniques like the popcorn popping to create suspense.
However, I would not want to show the killing or gore as I would like to leave it up the audience's imagination and leave it more tasteful, therefore trying to create an illusion of mystery.
This whole sequence is suspenseful as it has a phone caller who suddenly changes the atmosphere of the film with one word, this I find very intriguing to the opening of a film as it clearly identifies that it is a horror film.
