Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my media product would be teenagers aged from 13-18 who take an interest in the style of R&B music as well as Pop and Hip-Hop, so the gender of the audience would most likely to be both.
There is quite a range in the age gap as I believe that younger aged teenagers are more intrested in the chosen music genres because as most teenagers age their interest in music types widen and they begin to take more interest in other types of music e.g indie and rock. However the magazine is to an extent quite prevocative with a limited amount of sex appeal, which some younger aged teens parents may not allow their children to read in a magazine that has this type of content. So to balance this out the colour scheme used on my front cover has been made appealing to the eyes of younger teenagers, with purple an pink, which does contrast to the model used as a star.
The price of the magazine has also been made appealing for all teenagers as it is quite cheap- £1.99. I chose this price because I know that teenagers have trouble in finding jobs
so may not be able to afford a pricey magazine.

How did you attract/address your audience?

In order to attract the right audience to the magazine, I had to make correct decisions about layout, font, styling and colour schemes etc. The decision that was the main priority was the model I was going to use on the cover. In the first draft which remained until the final draft I used a young female model, who fit in with the image of being a singer/celebrity. The photograph I used was simple, a long shot although in a crouched down position, so that the audience could see every part of the model including her clothing. She wore a black striped dress that while showed off quite a bit of skin to give off sex appeal, also had a touch of elegance and class. She also wears black strappy high heeled shoes to keep within the interest as teenagers, as this is around the age where girls begin to experiment with their style and will begin to wear high heeled shoes. This also gives her a role model appeal, as girls will aspire to be as fashionable as she is. For a male audience they may find the clothing quite sexy and appealing. The models hair is quite individual and dramatic which gives her connotations of being a risk taker and wild, therefore contrasting with the dress she wears. Her make-up is highly prevocative, as she has dark smokey eyes and red lipstick to appeal to a male audience and to show she is trying to look sexy.

I also believe that the price I have used will attract the audience to a magazine, because it is most likely a young girl may only have a small amount of money, so when see's the price of this magazine will be persuaded to buy it and discard all the other magazines. If it were a parent also they might feel they do not want to be ripped off with their money and suggesst that a similar content will be used in most music magazines but they get it in mine for cheaper.

I have also used other examples of articles that will be found in the magazine which includes, 'Winning a free ticket to see a singer in concert.' This will attract customers as they will want to experiment with what the magazine has to offer and will want a chance in winning this free ticket.

The colour scheme I have used will also attract the correct audience as I used soft coloured fonts including Pink and Purple to get a female audience to respond, but there are also quite alot of blacks and greys on the cover, to show to a male audience that this is not only a girl's magazine.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

As my product is a magazine I would need a magazine distributer. Examples of magazine distributers include; Seymour, which is the largest distributer of UK magazines internationally- in over 70 countries; WWMO, which distributes magazine including 'Q', 'NME' and 'Rolling Stone'; COMAG, which is owned by two major magazine publishers, 'The National Magazine Company' and 'Conde Nast Publications'. This is the third party magazine distributer.

The company I would want to distribute my magazine is Seymour as this clearly would make the reputation of this magazine worldwide, whichis highly important as the music and artists this magazine focuses on are internationally successful artists. I do not believe WWMO would be as suitable because the genre of the music and the artists/bands they focus on are not at all similar to my magazine. I also dont believe that COMAG would do as good of a job in seeking consumers or distributing my magazine as well as Seymour could.

I think Seymour would distribute my magazine because the majority of music magazines now-a-days focus primaraly on Rock and Indie, so I believe my magazine has a touch of individualty and would have a large interested audience.
