How did you attract/address your audience?

We attracted our target audience through the means of theme, costumes, props, location, actors/actresses and the overall storyline. We knew from the beginning of the project who we wanted our target audience to be. We felt it would be best for us to try to address an audience of a similar age range to ourselves. This way we could use our own likes and interests to fuel the work we produced; in other words, knowing our audience. The theme for our film sequence was 'Romantic Comedy', more popularly known as a "Rom-Com". This we knew was a popular genre amongst the majority of teenage girls. We carried out research into film genre and from this we pulled inspiration for our own film. Along the way we changed our idea quite a few times. Our ideas ranged between Disney/Fairytale, Time Travel/Fantasy, the idea of Fate, and finally Romantic Comedy. We ended up sticking with 'Rom-Com' simply because it would give a straight forward, easy to grasp storyline for our particular chosen audience. The storyline of our opening sequence was also fairly straight forward - a simple 'boy meets girl' scene that our audience could relate to and enjoy, and so would hopefully want to carry on watching. We chose our actors specifically to fit the typical modern teenage boy and girl. We also asked them to wear specific clothing that we thought represented the teenage fashion of today. As well as costumes, we payed attention to the smaller details like props. In one clip, our actress is walking along with her head down buried in reading a magazine, and it is known that magazines are something every teenager loves, whether they are a boy or a girl, because there are magazines for all types of people. We chose to film our sequence in a small town called Ormskirk, in a small street full of people regularly passing and lots of little shops - teenage girls especially love shopping!
