Evaluation Question One

In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop or Challenge Forms and Conventions of Real Media?
Our media product, a news programme of a non-commercial radio broadcast containing several stories opens with a highly identifiable theme that is on any type of show to give you an idea of what show is about to come on, as in our research we looked at various news corporations/radio shows themes to give us clear ideas and guidelines when composing our own. We specifically looked at the BBC style of news broadcast as themes tend to give the news a more exciting start to the news by having a slightly dramatic musical intro and is very in your face so any audience knows what show is about to follow. So we copied the idea of the pulsing beep in BBC’s intro and developed it along with a heavy drumbeat and bass line, with rising synths throughout to create this build up before going into the headlines. We then separated each headline by having a big bold drum fill to tell listeners we are moving on.
When doing our only real like linked story about the student protests due to the rise in tuition fees we thought this would be the ideal place to “vox pops”, voice of the people. However we only thought of this after the protests had taken place so could not be there to get the true atmosphere. So we took a clip of protestors chanting at a demonstration in London, recorded two voices and mixed them together. Furthermore to make this seem even more as close to real as we could we had our voice actors recorded using a handheld microphone outside and had them shout the line as if trying to be heard over a group of protesting students just for the microphone.
We also included two outside broadcast as would be expected in any news programme, one on a rural farm in the Lancashire countryside and the other backstage at a music concert.
