From the production of my preliminary task I have learnt many things in the progression to my full product. Firstly I have learnt alot about layout and the way a music magazine should appear. When producing my preliminary task the layout was very poor compared to my final product as sub article's where scattered in various places and didn't appear like a magazine atall. I also learnt about the importance of a strong main image on the front cover to draw the reader into the magazine. As in the preliminary task I didn't realise the importance of this and then when it came to producing my product I realise I needed a very stong main image. So I then used a model that could look very powerful and attractive. Also my model needed to look the part of an arrogont rock singer, by her facial expressions and the clothes she is wearing.
I also learnt font sizes should be the same apart from one or two minor differences and also the range of colours should be restricted to three colours for a consistant house style. Furthermore i learnt that more than one image should be used on the front cover to make it more interesting and appealing and also on the contents page. As in my preliminary task i only used two pictures whereas in my final product I used several images. This was important for my audience so it makes interested in my product because if there was little images and alot of text they would most likely not pay any attention to it atall.
I have also learnt alot about correct ways to edit images such as editing the background. For example in my preliminary task i struggles editing the shadows in the background as I didn't know the correct tools or how to use them. Then i learnt how to erase shadows to make my images more professional.
I have also learnt the common features of a double page spread in process of producing my own product. For example I learnt how to use a drop cap at the begining of the article, which is the first letter is larger than the rest of the text and can be a different colour. Furthermore i realised I need to yet again use a strong powerful image to draw the reader into the article and try to reduce the amount of text as much as possible. I then learnt the use of straplines which can include a quote from what the artist has said to give an insight into the type of things included with the article. Another technique I learnt was the use of a large quote from the artist which is also striking to the reader to make them interested as well as the image.
I have also learnt the use of different shapes with text included on top of them. For example I used a circle with the colour red and a white ring around the outside with white text inside the circle to make this certain sub article stand out. This is important in making my product appealing and attractive.
