I wanted to start the romantic scene at the beginning of my project quickly in order to establish the connection between the couple clearly. To make the opening of my project smooth i used dissolve transitions and cross fades to help keep a slow cutting speed. I also ensured that all the shots at the start of the project (not including the Tilting down shot from the top of the tree the couple where under) had long shots and close ups of the couple together, not each partner individually. I was hoping that by doing this it would imply that the couple are close and not often apart.
After the abrupt, unrevealing conversation between me and Jodie following the first phone call when i begin to run commencing the running scene, i wanted to speed up the cutting speed. Even though the duration of the running scene is 50% slower, the fast cutting speed and the overlapping the two clips makes the scene busier. The close ups used after the couple are apart emphasises the fact that they are apart, again insinuating that something bad is going to happen, creating a sense of enigma. The new sense of enigma after the phone call in consequence changes the atmosphere from the initial laid back and happy ambiance when the couple seem to be always together, too a more dramatic and mysterious one.
