Looking at more film openings similar to my first ideas for my AS Media Production. A common scene in most films which the show the main characters day to day life typically show at some point the person brushing their teeth. Although not actually part of the plot the type of scene seems to be common. I have two examples of this, one from the film "Stranger Than Fiction" and one from the 1991 film, "What About Bob?".
"Stranger Than Fiction" 2006
"What About Bob?" 1991

Also having watch a different type of film opening that involves just a pan around an empty room, usually a room heavily linked to the main character or one of the main character. With photographs of the character life's to help the audience recognise the character and sometimes other characters if the photos include more than one person. Newspaper clippings, DVDs, videos or books to give us an idea to show what the character is interested in. Also the state of the room helps us to identify what the character is like and helps build an expectation of them, such as if the room is messy then you get an idea of disorganisation etc. AN example of this is again from a film call, "What About Bob?" which starts with the camera facing "Bob" from a distance, zooming in on him slowly with the camera passing objects in the room. It starts behind a box of pills and tissues, the pills lead us to think he is on some kind of medication either due to a physical or mental illness of problem. As it zooms in we see more pills farther on, with Bill Murry's character "Bob" rubbing his temples sat on the bed talking to himself. Giving us an idea of anxiety or paranoia that the character may suffer from.
