For our next lot of filming we went to Ormskirk to film the scene where the two characters meet. We chose this particular location for filming because it's a small town quite close to where we live. It has nice features, well suited to our scene. We found a small, quiet street called Church Walks which we thought was perfectly for what we we had in mind. We with a small rehearsal between our actors to see how it would look when filming and also to see if any changes needed to be made. We decided that our actress Charlotte should enter the scene by emerging from a shop door, to continue on from our last bit of filming where we see her leave the house closing the door behind her - continuity. Showing her going out through a door in one shot, and out from another in the next. She could then walk along the pathway preocupied reading with her head buried in a magazine. It is this that causes her accidentally bump into our second actor Tom, triggering a bit of small talk between the two. From their actions it should then be evident that there is a slightness of chemistry between them. Again, to add to the continuity, we filmed the conversation twice, from two different angles. These were both 'over the shoulder' shots, a technique which we leaned in the first few weeks of our course. Other techniques we learned include the '180 degree rule', which means when filming over the shoulder shots it is important to film it in such a way that the camera stays on one side of the characters for both shots. For example, if the camera is placed on the left hand side of your actors for one lot of filming, it must be placed on that same side for the next lot.

Next, following conversation suggesting the two should go for coffee, we filmed our actors turning and walking further on up the path. We filmed this sequence from a distance, making it almost an establishing shot, so the audience know the whereabout of the characters and their size and height in relation to one another.
Each part we filmed, we filmed a number of times so that we would have enough material to work with later in editing. This also meant we had a variation of shots to choose from. To make sure we were okay filming at our chosen location, we took the initiative to ask shop owners if it was alright to film outside their shops, and even to use doorways for one particular sequence where our actress was required to come out of a shop. The people we asked were very nice and let us film around them, and because of this it turned out very well. Once we felt we had enough footage, we decided to call it a day.
