Natalie's 1st Draft of Front Cover

Natalie's 1st Draft of Front Cover

For my front cover I decided to use a black and white theme which we then decided to use throughout both magazines. Before I started putting the cover together, I edited some of the photos that I'd taken in the studio to give myself a range of ideas for my front cover. I decided to use the full figure of my model because his stance and the guitar make him look more sophisticated and will appeal to an older audience.

When we decided on a logo we stuck to the black and white theme as it wouldn't stand out too much on the page but would still be recognised. As the logo is a base on the magazine cover that was the first item I added to my cover. I then decided as the figure is also black and white I would place the model layer over the top of the logo. To add a bit of colour to both the figure and the logo I added a glowing outline which then links when they overlap.

I decided to use black and white gradient for my bakcground, which I tried out during one of my edits. This helps the glowing out line higlight certain bits of the figure and his guitar.

I then used one certain font (FFF Tusj) for the title "Dom Gane" and then the "win tickets for the new..." this hasn't been finished yet but it will advertise something within the magazine. I then added an outer glow to the titles and reference to inside of the magazine. The colour of this is red because it stands out from the black and white but doesn't take away the sophistication
of the printwork.

I then added a barcode and the issue number, date and price, we also decided that we would have a website address because it encourages reader to check the website if they forget to buy their copy of the magazine.

I've kept my front cover design simple because I think it would look too cluttered if more news was put on along with the full figure picture, it would also take away the emphasis of the main picture. A cluttered magazine cover will take away any sophistication the magazine actually had, this is why we have stuck to a constant house style without meaning that we kept colours and fonts the same.
